Enrichment Programs


Registration Information:
1. Call the Hatchery to reserve a space for your child at (516) 692-6768.

2. Mail the completed registration form along with a full nonrefundable payment to:

3. Payment must be received within one week of placing your child's name on the sign-up sheet. After 1 week the Hatchery reserves the right to give that spot to another child.



Summer Enrichment Programs 2010:
 
Close Encounters of the Natural Kind
Fee: $15 per day; $50 for 4 days
 
This program is designed for children who will enter Kindergarten in September 2010. One day programs will introduce participants to the Hatchery and surrounding natural environment through an outdoor activity, arts and crafts. There will be a separate theme each day, allowing participants to sign up for 4 different programs: Mondays (Fancy Fish), Tuesdays (Turtle Tuesdays), Wednesdays (Amazing Amphibians), Thursdays (Recycle Day).

Curious Naturalists
Fee: $70 (members); $75 (non-members)
 
This program is designed for children who will enter grades 1 or 2 in September 2010. Curious Naturalists will view the natural environment in and around the Hatchery. The curiosity of the participants will be encouraged through natural expeditions, games, and crafts. Children may get wet and muddy during hands-on activities.

Field Explorers
Fee: $90 (members); $100(non-members)
 
Field Explorers have fun learning the facts concerning our environment. This week long program encourages children entering grades 3-6 in September 2010 to become more aware of our delicate environment. We will be exploring the salt-marsh, pond, and woodland habitats. Students will get wet and muddy during hands-on activities.

Nature Photography
Fee: $25 (members); $30 (non-members)
 
For students entering grades 2 an up in September 2010. Hatchery staff will introduce students to the wonders of nature photography. Students may bring their own digital camera or use equipment provided by the Hatchery. Digital photography equipment donated by CANON.
  Session NP July 28 10am-12pm
 
 
Field Experts
Fee: $100
 
For students entering grades 6 and up in September 2010 and who have participated in the Field Explorers program for a minimum of 1 year. Students will spend an extra day in the salt-marsh and Franklin's Pond exploring with fellow Field Experts. They will also be an assistant during one week of the Field Explorers program (included in the Expert price). Please pack a lunch.

Turtle Trackers
Fee:$60; ($50 if also participating in another of our programs)
 
Turtles have roamed the Earth for millions of years. This 3 day program will help students learn more about these fascinating reptiles. We will be spending a lot of time outdoors, and hopefully catch a few turtles! For students entering grades 6 and up in September 2010.

Fly Fishing
Fee: $35 (members); $40(non-members)
 
For students entering grades 3 and up in September 2010. Learn the art of fly fishing. Lessons in fly tying and fly casting will be taught by members of the Long Island Chapter of Trout Unlimited.

Mommy & Me
Fee:General Admission, Members free
 
Fun Friday at the Hatchery: Mommy & Me, fun for preschoolers, ages 3-5, and their caretakers. Includes a tour of the Hatchery, fish feeding, and a craft. Pre-registration recommended.
